The new National Theater and the Palace of Arts

127_1Two controversial buildings, future will decide if they will become also symbols of Budapest or not. On the left, the new National Theater. The old one was demolished on the 23rd of April in 1965 (it stood on Blaha Lujza square) and after a very long interim period, lots of debates and change of plans was built here on the bank of the Danube.
Note that the “Hole” on Erzsebet square was ment to be the place of the National Theater, they started the construction and then changed their mind…however, it’s better like that, I like that park and the “Gödör Klub” over there 🙂 The Palace of Art gave room for some more debates, but finally it was built and I particularly like it better then the new National Theater.
