The Easiest Way – Trolley-buses

dta4ccn899Trolleys in Budapest are operated by BKV Budapest Transport Limited. These red electric buses operate mostly in Districts 5 (Inner City & Lipotvaros), 6,7,8,13 and 14, forming a dense network. Tickets are sold on all trolleybuses while staying in a stop for an extra charge. Don’t forget to VALIDATE YOUR TICKET even if bought from the driver. Schedules are clearly posted under the stop sign. Trolleys always stop if there are passengers in the stop. Mind that some stops are long enough for two vehicles- these stops are marked by “MM” under the stop sign (and not the usual “M”). When you are alone and a trolleybus approaches that you are not to take, please wave so that it doesn’t have to stop in vain. A list of stops or an electronic stop display is available in all cars – it’s advisable to rely on printed information instead of electronic. All routes are local, calling at all stops. Route numbers are clearly shown on the front, on the right side and on the back side. Letter “G” or red sign “GARAZSMENET” means the trolley goes to depot: in this case, check where it terminates. Don’t forget to use the signal button before getting off – trolleys only stop if requested. Mind that trolleys are electric vehicles and may accelerate quickly. Hold on tight! When getting on a trolley in rainy weather, only touch the railing after you’ve left the sidewalk – this way avoiding a never fatal, but still unpleasant experience of a light electric shock. Don’t get on when the bell is ringing.
